2023 Summer School & Camps

Welcome to LC’s Summer School and Camps!

Looking for fun and educational activities for your kids this summer? We are excited to once again offer SUMMER SCHOOL AND CAMPS! Registration is open for students entering grades 1 – 8 in the Fall of 2023. Directed by Amy Schouten and staffed by many of our current teachers and coaches, the purpose is to offer FUN, hands-on, engaging, and ENRICHING courses!

Each summer school session will run for 3 weeks, with two sessions being offered. The fee for each summer school session is $625. Please email Amy Schouten, Summer School Director, at aschouten@lyncs.org  to register or for more information.

As you register your kids please pay close attention to dates and times as they are not uniform this year.  Registration for each camp will close one week prior to the camp start date.  Refunds will be given up to two weeks prior to the camp start date.

  • SUMMER SCHOOL SESSION 1 ($625): June 19 – July 7, 8:30am – 12pm (includes traditional grades 1-6)
  • SUMMER SCHOOL SESSION 2 ($625): July 17 – August 4, 8:30am – 12pm (includes traditional grades 1-6)
  • CAMP SESSIONS:  June 19-23,  June 26-June 30,  July 3-7(except the 4th),  July 10-14,  July 17-21,  July 24-28, and July 31-August 4.

Refunds will be available for all camps up to two weeks prior to the start date of the camp.

SPECIAL INTEREST CAMPS

Chess (3rd-5th & 6th-8th) – LCS has a strong chess tradition.  Join us and learn how to properly play the most popular board game in the world.  Terms such as fork, pins, skewers, castling, check, checkmate, and chess notation will be familiar to you by the end of camp. Instructor: Peter Witecki

  • 3rd – 5th grade   June 19-23rd, 2:15-3:45 (max 10)

Cooking (1st-3rd) – Cooking isn’t just a way to prepare food, it can be creative too.  For successful cooking and safety, a cook should use quality ingredients, proper equipment, and follow a few basic kitchen rules. In this class you will discover that cooking can be easy, fun, and best of all, you get to eat what you make! Instructors: Kay Morris and Bev Vree

Drama (5th-8th) – This course is a fun and immersive introduction to exploring the world of theatre.  There will be improv games and lessons, memorization tips, and developing a basic understanding of drama terms and equipment.  This will be a fun and comfortable environment to step out of your comfort zone. Instructors: Kali Van Dalen and Becca Ball

Fairy Tales & Art (1st-3rd) – Everyone loves a great Fairy Tale! This course will mix reading, writing, and art to give a unique perspective on classic fairy tales. Instructors: Hannah VanWingerden and Jen Bishop

Music (1st-3rd) – “Bach n’ Roll” – Get into the swing of things this summer with a class designed for budding musicians.  Students will have the opportunity to study rhythm, music theory, listening, movement, percussion, and voice.  Musical games and activities will keep your students’ feet tapping! Instructor:  Meg Krieg

Music (4th-6th) – “Sounds of Summer” – Cool off and beat the summer heat with the sweet sounds of music.  This class is designed to expose students to many aspects of music including movement, rhythm, exploring creativity, music theory and history.  Using group activities and games, your student can brush up on their musical ability or be inspired to try music for the first time.  They’ll be sure to leave class humming a tune!   • 4th – 6th grade   July 10-14, 2:15-3:45 (max 12)

Beginning & Intermediate Guitar (4th-8th) – Have you always wanted to learn how to play the guitar? These courses will get you started on the basic chords, strumming patterns, and simple worship songs to join your church worship team or start your own garage band. While helpful, no music experience is necessary; courses are appropriate for all skill levels. Instructors: Ken & Lisa Quehrn

Science Experiments (1st-3rd) – Explore the many ways science can change our expectations! Can you get an egg to be bouncy?  Can you make candy?  We will be answering these questions by learning more about the world God created, and putting our knowledge into FUN action. Instructor: Peyton Ogle

(4th-7th) – Be ready to “blow” your mind (and other stuff).  We will be learning a wide variety of scientific basics from physics, sociology, biology, and chemistry. These labs will not only serve as a fun way to connect with others, but will introduce you to terms that you will hear in future labs.  Instructor: Peyton Ogle

Woodworking (6th-8th) – The woodshop might be the ultimate “maker space”!  With safety first, and close supervision, students will choose from two classes:  1. Building a wooden caddie or 2. Building a pair of charcuterie trays.  This class is designed to get students familiarized with basic woodworking tools, learn new skills, and let their creativity shine through the art of woodworking. SPORTS CAMPS

Archery (4th-8th) – Ready, Set, Aim! This class is for beginning to intermediate Archers. When the shooter is on the line, they will learn good aiming techniques as well as stance and follow through.  This is a fun class where focus and discipline are also learned and practiced. Instructors: Julie Mc Gillivray & Allan Scott

Boys Baseball (4th-8th) – Play Ball! We will have coaches work with each defensive group: infield, outfield, catchers, and pitchers. In those positions you will learn proper techniques to be successful.  You will also learn hitting and base-running.  There will be multiple competitions and fun games, as well as a live game to wrap up the week. Instructor: Noah Rawls

Basketball – Come experience basketball in a positive environment!

  • Little Dribblers (boys & girls) (1st –3rd)  July 10-13, 9:30-11:00 – With a focus on having fun while learning basketball’s fundamentals, this camp is a great learning opportunity for kids of all skill levels. Instructor: Brady Bomber
  • Girls (4th–8th) July 10-13, 11:30-2:00 – With a focus on basketball skill development and team-building principles featuring individual and team contests. Instructor: Brady Bomber
  • Boys (4th–8th) July 10-13, 2:30-4:30 -Nail the jumper, dominate in defense, and pass like a pro!  This camp will be full of drills and competition. Instructor: Tim Zylstra

Fitness & Fun (4th-8th) – Let’s get together for some fun games, fitness, and activities that move our bodies!  This course will give students the chance to run, jump, play group games, and learn body weight movements that can propel them into a life of fitness. Instructor: Michelle McIlvoy

Football (4th-8th) – Ready, set, hut! Our football camp will teach fundamental skills, including offensive and defensive drills in a fun environment! Instructor: Greg Terpstra

Golf (4th-8th) – All skill levels are welcome! Join in and learn new skills or improve on the ones you already have.  Golf camp will be held at Homestead Golf Club. Instructor: Darin DeYoung

  • 4th – 8th grade  July 17-20, 4:30-6:00

Soccer (1st-3rd & 4th-7th) -Burn off some energy and learn something new at soccer camp this year!  All skill levels are welcome and all campers are sure to have a fun week of drills, skill-building, and games! Instructors: Grace Meyer, Kylie Roetcisoender, and Chad Fakkema

  • 1st – 3rd grade   June 26-29, 3:00-4:30
  • 4th – 7th grade   June 26-29, 4:30-6:00

Tennis (1st-3rd & 4th-6th) – Let’s Go Play!!! Our tennis sessions will provide a fun learning experience for beginner to intermediate players.  Participants will be introduced to basic skills and techniques for their tennis game.  They will learn the fundamental strokes, footwork, and rules using a combination of drills and games. Instructor: Amber Zoerink

Volleyball (4th-9th) – Campers will be taught the basic fundamentals of the game, including techniques of passing, setting, hitting, and serving. Come improve your skills and learn some new ones!  Instructor: Kristy Van Egdom
