I grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Calvin Collage. My teaching career began at LCS teaching art to grades 5-12 and leading the yearbook crew. After some time away from education, I returned to teach art in the middle school. I love working in the middle school art studio! The art studio makes the hard work of learning fun, and that’s what education should be!

Each student is a mystery, someone with their own sets of experiences, ideas, perceptions of the world, and goals. It is my joy to facilitate each individual’s exploration into the world of art, meeting them wherever they are.  I’m motivated by how vital (life-giving) art-making is to young people.

A few other details about me in case we ever have to play an icebreaker game: my husband and I have three young adult children and one of our favorite places is on the water of Lake Whatcom or Samish. I’ve been to almost all the states, but have never been to California. I like to grow food and flowers, occasionally read, try new recipes, and spend time with friends. I care deeply about social justice and stewardship of the earth and continue to learn and do what I can to be Jesus’ hands and feet. Our family attends Sonlight Community Christian Reformed Church.
