“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Prov. 3:5-6
This verse from Proverbs has become my “mantra” since early in my college years. In my position as Student Academic Services Director, I believe God calls us to guide each student to seek out the Lord and learn His desires for them. My role in Student Academic Services is not only to help the students achieve academic success but also create an awareness of who God has created them to be.
I received my BA in Elementary Education from Dordt College in 1980. Months later, Don and I were married and moved to Columbus, Ohio. There I took graduate courses at the Ohio State University while teaching in a variety of settings: Ohio State School for the Deaf and Director of Covenant Child Care Center. The next step of our lives brought us to Syracuse, New York where I became a tutor in the Baldwinsville Public School system. During those years we were blessed with our son, Derek and two daughters, Janelle and Julie. In 1992, we moved to Lynden where Don became the owner of Whatcom Veterinary Hospital. After substitute teaching at Lynden Christian, I was hired in 2000 as the Student Academic Services Director in the high school. I have since completed my 5th year at the City University and a Masters in Special Education from Grand Canyon University. We have also been blessed with our 4th child, Kayla. Here, at Lynden Christian School, our children are nurtured to know and love the Lord and I am honored to be a part of this faculty.
