”Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

In 1996, I received my Bachelor of Arts in education degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. My wife, Nicole, and I moved to the Twin Cities of Minnesota after college so she could attend the University of Minnesota Law School and I could teach fourth grade at Calvin Christian School. I spent the next six years teaching there as my wife finished school and practiced law. Eventually, we chose to move back to my hometown of Lynden.

My wife and I have three daughters, Peyton, Morgan and Sydney. They are a blessing and keep us busy and young at the same time!

I attended Lynden Christian School when I was young. Many dedicated teachers gave me a wonderful K-12 education. LCS’s mission statements are stated clear and each of us try very hard to follow them. My classroom is no exception as I strive each year to make clear God’s presence across the wide spectrum of education. When students see God’s handiwork emerge in all subject areas, I feel that our work here is not only worth it, but necessary for each child to know what it means to be a child of God. We do not shield our eager students from the outside world. Rather, we equip them to take on whatever flaming arrows may come their way.

In order for students in my class to completely embrace the truths taught them, parents must affirm our mission at home. That is why we, the LCS staff, are committed to maintaining a firm partnership with each family that has entrusted their precious child to our caring instruction. The three-way bond of church, family and school is what allows rock-solid education to take place here. True excellence in education can only be achieved when the love of Christ is what drives us to excel.
