Being in Step…Bearing Good Fruit.

Merry Christmas

From my family to yours, I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Lynden Christian’s Mission to educate children of Christians so that they mature into perceptive, caring Christians is evident from the relationships I see in classrooms and around our campuses as well as in the Christ-centered education our students are receiving. It’s great! I look forward to seeing the transforming influence each of you and each of our students have in this world for God’s kingdom.  It certainly is a season for gifts, the ones that we give and get to receive. Here are a few gifts I have been thinking about:

  • Students, everyone as a child of God; what gifts!
  • Parents and their commitment to their children and Christian education
  • Staff: secretaries, teachers, custodians, bus drivers, coaches, aides, principals, 2nd Chance, recycle center, nurses, technology, and librarians
  • Board members: Dan Turner, Michael TerBeek, Frank DeVries, Vicki Huizenga, Butch Kamena, Jacob Steiger, Dale Van Rooyen, Shawna Vander Leest, BJ Westra, Winerva Kramer, Bryan Van Loo, and Josh Levien
  • Staff Retirements and Years of Service at LC: We recognized them at the staff Christmas party, but what gifts to share!
    • Mary Kuiken is retiring in December 2017 as our controller. She has served in this role for 28 years. God’s blessings, Mary!

10 years, part-time:

  • Niki DeYoung, high school math
  • Kirstin McClure, SAS para
  • Linda DeBoer, SAS and middle school teacher

10 years, full-time equivalent:

  • Nate Beede, 4th grade teacher, Evergreen
  • Tami Blankers, central office finance department
  • Amy Clements, office administrator at Evergreen
  • Chelsea Tinklenberg, 3rd grade teacher, Lynden campus
  • Amy Libolt, Discovery therapist
  • Shauna Senti, high school Spanish

20 years:

  • Jon Van Hulzen, high school Bible
  • Cheryl Westra, middle school PE

30 years:

  • Rene Haan, 3rd grade teacher, Lynden campus

Again, Merry Christmas and blessings to you in the New Year.

Paul Bootsma, Superintendent

Expedia – New Partnership!  Thanks to a connection through one of our school parents, we will be partnering with Expedia in an exciting opportunity to raise funds for our school. The program is called Stay to Help and can be found on our school website under the SUPPORT US tab.  The program works a lot like Amazon Smile, with a much higher commission percentage.  Consider trying it out when you book your next hotel stay.  Thank you for all the ways you support LCS!  Your help keeps the cost of tuition as low as possible.

Inclement Weather Information – In the event that school will be delayed or cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, information will be posted on the school website and a text alert will be sent out.  You may also check the radio and TV stations listed below. We will do our best to have this information available no later than 6:00-6:30 am. If the start of school is delayed by 2 hours, morning preschool classes will not meet. It is our general policy that once we are at school, we will stay at school - classes would not be dismissed early. The exception would be extreme weather.

Last Call for Christmas Capes - Students will be wearing white capes with red bows. The bows will be provided; however, each child is asked to bring a cape made of a square of white cloth. Students in grades K-2 generally wear a 20 inch cape while grades 3-4 generally wear 30 inch capes. The capes should be slit from one corner to the center with a circle cut out of the middle for the neck. The material does not need to be hemmed, but should not unravel. We realize it is sometimes difficult for families to locate or make a cape. If you have one you no longer need, would you consider donating it so we could have a few available in case a student does not have one? Please call the office (360-318-9525, option 1) with any questions.
