Current Families APPLYING TO ENROLL A NEW STUDENT in Preschool through Grade 12

To enroll a new student who has never attended LCS, please use the Online Admissions program on our website. (DO NOT use this program to re-enroll current students because you will be charged with a new student application fee.) Application fee per new student is $50.00. Additional medical information is also required, and forms will be emailed to parents. For more information, please contact Ezra Stump, Lynden campus (360-318-9525) or Amy Clements, Evergreen campus (360-738-8248).

T.R.I.P. = Tuition Reduction Incentive Program!

New Year’s Resolution - If you are not already buying gift cards or Community Cash (accepted at over 75 local businesses)….now is the time to start! Earn 4% or 10% tuition credits on pre-paid gift cards purchased through the school’s “T.R.I.P.” program. Find FAQs and a downloadable order form on the school website (“Resource” tab, T.R.I.P.).   Instant purchase of cards is possible at the Lynden campus Central Office on February 8 and March 8 (3:00-7:00 pm) and any Thursday morning (8:00-9:00 am).  This is also a great time to come in person and have your questions answered.

Food Pavilion | Red Apple - Effective immediately, Food Pavilion/Red Apple gift cards sold through the T.R.I.P. program cannot be used as payment for other in-store merchant gift cards (in other words, you cannot buy an Amazon gift card at Food Pavilion with a Food Pavilion gift card you purchased at LC).

Card Cubbies - A limited number of the famous card cubbies are still available for $13.00 or $20.00 at any  instant purchase event where gift cards are being sold.

ScripNow - Do you want another way to earn money toward your tuition?  The ScripNow program may be a good option for you! ScripNow enables you to make INSTANT purchases of eCards from your smart phone or computer and earn rebates that are then applied to your tuition.  Mark your calendar to attend an introduction class on February 2 at 7:00 pm in the LCHS library. No classes will be held in March and future class times will be determined.  You must attend a meeting in order to participate.  Please direct all questions to ScripNow@lyncs.org.

An Evening in the Garden Dinner Auction – Invitations Mailed Soon!

Saturday, March 25, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

Donations:  Please consider donating items such as services, gift certificates, baskets, vacation packages, etc.

Help Needed in the Following Areas:  (1) A procurement letter has been mailed to local businesses that have a connection to LC – we need volunteers to call these businesses to request, confirm and coordinate delivery of auction items or services.  We even have a telephone script for you to use when making calls!  (2) We have a need for set-up and take-down volunteers.  Please contact Alanna Wagenaar (360-392-8622) for details.

Calling All Sponsors – Let Us Advertise Your Business!  If your business would like to sponsor this event, please contact Ezra Stump ASAP!  We want to provide your business with maximum advertising exposure on the invitation, website, Facebook, posters, Home Bulletin, etc.  CLICK HERE for a list of the various sponsor levels and benefits.

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time.

Tickets go on sale Monday, January 17 and are available at the Central Office (360-318-9525). The performance is appropriate for all ages and tickets are expected to sell quickly, so be sure to get yours right away!  Prices are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for seniors/students. Tickets reserved over the phone without payment will be held for 48 hours only. All shows will be performed in the high school Worship and Fine Arts Center and begin at 7:00 pm.  Performances dates are January 27, 28, 31 and February 2, 3, and 4.

Elementary School Open House (preschool through grade 4) @ 7:00 pm  See announcement below for more details.

Elementary School Open House - The very best promotion is “word of mouth,” and we want your help identifying families who might be interested in learning more about LC!  Our Elementary School Open House will be on February 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.  We will have staff on hand to answer questions about the classes, curriculum, kindergarten readiness preparation, and tip/helps for paying for Christian education. This will be a great introduction to Lynden Christian School and all we have to offer students and families.  Any contact names I receive will be sent a personal invitation to the Open House where they will hear about the LC Preschool as well as Kindergarten – 4th grade. During this time, we will also share our vision for Christian education. All those who submit the name of a family who might be interested in learning about LC, will be entered into a drawing for a dinner at Jake’s and tickets for your immediate family to the LCHS musical production of The Sound of Music. Please email me names and contact information by January 18, 2017!  Contact the Central Office if you have any questions (360) 318-9525. Thanks!  Note: Another way you can help us to get the word out is to LIKE and SHARE our posts on social media when you see them!                                   Ezra Stump , Development Director

January Board Summary 2016

Lynden Christian Board of Directors Summary—January 2016

The board spent some time discussing and prioritizing next steps for change and growth beyond the strategic plan.  The Education committee has formed task forces to begin addressing the following issues, driven by the strategic plan:

--create an LC policy on human sexuality issues

--establish a vision for effective assessment practices

--establish a 5-year technology plan

--effectively train and mentor new LC employees

--establish a vision for international school partnerships

The Board supported the creation of an Activities Director position, which replaces the current Athletic Director position.  This person will supervise and coordinate all extra-curricular sports, fine arts, and FFA activities.  This position has been posted on the school’s website.

Promotions Committee is making some revisions to our branding legislation booklet to correct a few issues and make it more user-friendly.

Sportsmanship As we move into basketball season, please keep the following in mind when you come to the games:

  1. 1)  Cheer our teams on with positive statements and avoid negative comments.

stands and don’t let them roam the lobby area (no outside balls allowed at games).

  3. 3)  Good sportsmanship is a style and an attitude that can have a positive influence on everyone

    around you.

Thanks for your encouragement of our student athletes both on and off the court!

The capes should be slit from one corner to the center with a circle cut out of the middle for the neck. The material does not need to be hemmed, but should not unravel. Lost and Found Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found table and clothes racks for anything that might belong to them. As the weather turns warmer, our collection grows larger! Items not claimed by Spring Break will be donated to Second Chance.

Starfish Ministries Update Throughout the month of February, students at the elementary school collected socks (over 500 pairs!) and shoes (approx. 200 pairs!) as well as coins to help children in Haiti. All the contents of piggy banks and money earned for doing extra chores resulted in a box too heavy to carry without a handcart. A local bank tallied and rolled all the coins reporting a total collected of $1750.00! The funds will be used to buy goats, chickens, Bibles and school supplies. Thank students and parents for your amazing generosity and support of Starfish Ministries!

BoxTops and Campbell's Label Points - Here are the top collectors for February. Be sure to check out their class pictures on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/lcrecycles. This is a huge help to our school and we thank you for your participation. Start collecting for March and send them in all month long! Happy collecting!

Middle School (5-8)

7-8 Spring Sports will begin practices on Monday, March 23. The following sports will be offered: boys baseball, girls soccer and boys and girls track and field. If a student has played a sport already this year, all that is needed is the $30 fee. If a student has not participated in a sport this year, we need all the forms (available online and in the office) plus $30. Noon meetings for students interested in participating will be on March 17.

High School (9-12)

Wednesday March 18 is a scheduled noon dismissal (collaboration day) for grades K-8. There will be NO bus service that afternoon for high school students. Morning bus service will remain the same.

ALL SCHOOL INFORMATION

Superintendent Search Committee – The purpose of this communication is to inform you that a Superintendent Search Committee has been appointed by the Lynden Christian School Board of Directors.  The team is led by Gary Hall, former Board president, and is comprised of three present and one former board member as well as four faculty/staff members representing various segments of the Lynden Christian School system.  The Committee has contracted with Christian Schools Executive Search (CSES) which serves as a consultant for Christian School International (our parent organization) to locate Christian school executives.  There are two CSES consultants who each have thirty plus years of experience in Christian education with extensive contacts throughout the Christian school community.  Finding the best candidates for this position can only be done by seeking the wisdom of God and being in alignment with His will in this endeavor.  We, as a committee, know how important it is to bathe the entire process in prayer, and we solicit your prayers in this effort.  It is the objective of the Search Committee and the Board to have this effort completed before the end of 2014.  We encourage you to share your constructive thoughts or suggestions with the Search Committee via garyhall13@comcast.net or Kim Powell at kpowell@lyncs.org.                                                                                                                          Yours in Christ,
Gary Hall, Chair - Superintendent Search Committee

Strategic Planning Process – On behalf of myself and the Board, thank you for your involvement in the recent strategic planning process.  Our facilitator, Mitch Everton, was so impressed with the deep interest and investment that staff, students, parents and community members are making in our school.  The timeline for this process is as follows:  The Board will review the results of the 16 focus groups (13 on the Lynden Campus and 3 at the Evergreen Campus) and follow-up survey.  Initial goals will be prioritized and strategies developed (in a real sense, there will be two sets of goals and strategies – one for the Lynden Campus and another for the Evergreen Campus – within the context of one school system/district).  Mr. Everton will facilitate a Board retreat on November 17 to further refine the data, goals and strategies.  The community (staff, parents, others) will then have an opportunity to comment on the initial plan.  A final 3 – 5 year strategic plan will be developed which will be published, reviewed at each Board meeting as it relates to progress made, and revised as needed.
In His service,
Jacob Steiger, President of the Board
Fall Discovery Night and Graduation will be held on Tuesday, October 21 from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Middle School (upper student gathering area).  This year, we will be honoring one graduate from the program.  Also, Jeany Aupperlee, LCS High School SAS Director, will be speaking on the subject of “Developing Executive Function Skills for School Success.”  Anyone who answers, “Yes”, to the following questions will find this presentation helpful:  Does your child forget most of your instructions within an hour of receiving them?  Does your child have a hard time starting homework or forget to hand in homework?  Does your child have difficulty completing a chore list?  Does your child have a disorganized binder or a messy bedroom?  Please join us and invite a friend to learn about executive function skills, why they are important for learning, and how to help children develop them.

LCS Auction Planning Committee – The 2015 Lynden Christian School Dinner/Auction is scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2015!  The Auction Planning Committee is meeting on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 pm in the Central Office conference room and welcomes new individuals wanting to plan the auction with us!  If you would like to be part of planning this major fundraising event from the start, please come to our meeting.  Questions?  Call Sue De Jong (389-5998) or Jill Sipma (354-2748).
High School Fall Play "But Why Bump Off Barnaby" - This lunatic show poses a fascinating mystery. When Barnaby Folcey is murdered at a family gathering at Marlgate Manor, it transpires that he had a motive to murder everybody else but no one had a reason to want him dead. While dying, he scrawled the letters "b-a-r," which can implicate everyone. While the bizarre group frantically tries to unmask the murderer, people vanish, poison is found in the sherry and the police take forever to arrive. Meanwhile, there's a secret treasure to be found, a mystifying limerick to decode and all sorts of doom to be avoided before the killer is finally unmasked and destroyed using one of the funniest methods ever seen on a stage. Performance dates are Thursday, October 16, Saturday, October 18, Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25. All performances begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets go on sale September 29 at the Central Office from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Adults $10, students/seniors $6.
An Evening in Yellowstone National Park - Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 pm in the Lynden Christian High School Worship and Fine Arts Center. Lynden Christian School and the Lynden Noon Kiwanis are co-sponsoring “Evening in Yellowstone,” a presentation by Harlan Kredit, our own award winning educator (Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching; Washington State Secondary Science Teacher of the Year), Yellowstone Park Ranger for 42 summers, photographer and story teller.  This audiovisual presentation with some hands on activities will particularly focus on the thermal features of the park along with inter-relationships of grizzly bears, wolves and elk.  He will also tell some of his favorite ranger stories.  This special activity is designed for the entire family.  Tickets are available at the door at $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.  What a wonderful and wholesome way to spend an evening!  All proceeds will go to support youth within the broader community with scholarships, the “4th Grade Learn to Swim” program (which includes the 4th grade classes at LC), and many other activities.
