While neuroscience has been studying early changes in the infant and toddler brain for many years, only recently has science uncovered the astounding ways the teenage brain is changing, particularly from ages 13-21. Come learn more about this amazing time period, when your adolescents’ brain is primed for new learning but also vulnerable to substances and risks. We will explore the growth and potential of the teen brain from the neuron to more advanced brain systems. We will learn how experience, substances, and emotions change this development track, for better or for worse. Strategies for encouraging and maximizing your teen’s potential during this time of life will be discussed.

Dr. Jody Veltkamp is a Neuropsychologist in private practice in Bellingham WA. She brings 20 years of experience in measuring and interpreting brain abilities, including intelligence, memory, and emotions. The mother of two adolescents, she is invested in understanding, protecting, and promoting brain health, particularly in the teenage years.
